You flat AJo vs a HJ raise in the BB. What hands do you 3bet in this spot? Think I normally 3bet QQ+/AK/AQ/A2s-A5s, but not sure if I should have some more bluffs (A2s-A5s part of range). From a theory standpoint, how do you choose which ones to use? Is it a function of how much equity you have vs their calling range since HJ vs BB 3bet is liable to defend more by calling IP than 4-betting? Or is it a combination of equity vs their calling range + playability?
Hmmm, didn't expect this answer from wilt saying he does it with the same range. Without knowing who it is on bovada, I'm 3-betting a lot wider than both of you. I think it's interesting, but I think games are loose enough in 2015 to be 3-betting that spot a lot more.
I'm in the 9% range consisting of TT+ AK, AQ for value and using high equity hands A2s-A5s as well as all the suited broadways with any ten and up (JTs, qts, kts, ats, QJs, KJs, AJs, KQs). I've even added KQo to this range after I saw sauce do it and explain it. I wouldn't say I always 3-bet the bottom portion of my range - I just make a judgement call.
Right now players seem to be opening 20% on bovada in that position at 1/2 and 2/4 (sample is over 300k hands on population). 9% consisting of a linear range sounds pretty good math wise. All the hands I listed play well against your standard calling range. Choosing linear on bovada because your random joe tends to be too cally and players you thought were decent show up with random stuff.
